Musings from God’s Word
As I am sure you will realize music is on my mind for a great part of my day.
Last week I had reached a point of time one day where I, (of all people) was feeling a little stressed and discomforted. I had noticed that our Jan 18th hymn sing had been posted on YouTube so we went to check it out.
What a difference it made to my sense of well being. That 45 minutes of listening to the combined voices of all the folks who attend our hymn sing took away the feeling of stress and discomfort. Thank you Lord!
If you miss attending in person, you can listen to us here on the Hymn Sing page or look us up on Youtube.
It made me consider how music can raise our spirits and bring us closer to God. At the same time music has a lesson for us to remember in our lives. Anyone who understands music will know that part of the sound of music includes such things as a “rest”. A point in the music when silence is required, not the sounds. But the rest is a very important part of the musical score since the music requires those moments of rest in order for the song or songs to be complete.
In the melody of our lives we too require a rest. A period of time to take a break from the hurries of life and just sit back and contemplate the joys we have as Christians. Sometimes the busyness of life can overwhelm and stress us, so a rest is required to keep life going with the appropriate beat or rhythm.
Our lives are really musical scores. We roll along but life creates noise, interference, disruption but also time of peace, and contentment. As Christians when those raucous chords of life upset the applecart, where is our rest?

What a clear picture of how we can find those moments or times of required rest in our lives. I sometimes think that we as Christians are still guilty of trying to solve all our problems ourselves when taking time out to rest and speak to Jesus and share what we’re going through is exactly what’s needed.
David figured it out in Psalm 4:8

We all remember clearly in Genesis 2:8 when God rested on the seventh day. If God needed a rest surely we do too.

There is our best example along with God. Take the rest even from the joys of life and contemplate your place in the World.
Saved by Grace, Preserved for His kingdom. God bless each of you as you take the rest time in your busy lives. For all you music lovers you know how important that rest is in a score of music.
