Musings on God’s Word
Barb & I have just returned from a 4 day sojourn in Tofino. Mostly just to relax. but we did spend some time watching the surfers attempting to surf in the cold Pacific Ocean. Admired their tenacity and sticktoitiveness. Wow that’s a big word. But they did and I talked to one of them to find out what motivates one to try that sport. Not me, that’s for sure.
Something else we watched was the coming and going of the tides. While doing so we watched people walking the sands, above the water line.
Sometimes a large area and sometimes small, due to the coming and going of the tides.
When the walkers, and often their dogs strolled along they left footprints, but when the tide came those footprints were all gone, as if they never existed.
This is much like human life, we are born, live and die in what actually is a short period of time.
My Mother used to say –

So the question is what did we do with those short years of life we’ve been given. Those footprints in the ‘sands of life’ that disappear soon after we’re gone.
We have a plaque beside our front door which reads –

I looked it up and found the entire poem which I’m sure became a song but I’ll share the words I found.
My Hope is Built on Nothing Less
1) Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life's busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Chorus
Only one life, 'twill soon be past,
Only what's done for Christ will last.
2) Only one life, yes only one,
Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in "that day' my Lord to meet,
and stand before His judgment seat'
3) Only one life, the still small voice,
gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding my selfish aims to leave,
and to God's holy will to cleave;
4)Only one life, a few brief years,
Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with its days I must fulfill,
living for self or in His will;
5)When this bright world would tempt me sore,
When Satan would a victory score;
When self would seek to have its way,
then help me Lord with joy to say;
6) Give me Father, a purpose deep,
in joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e'er the strife,
Pleasing thee in my daily life;
7) Oh let my love with fervor burn,
and from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing thee pleasure on Thy throne;
8) Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say, "Thy will be done";
And when at last I'll hear the call,
I know I'll say 'twas worth it all"
How’s your day been, How’s your life been.
I trust if it’s been lived for Christ you have found joy and the future with our Lord and Maker, Christ Jesus in Heaven.
