Scripture

person reading book

Life continues to be interesting, hard to figure out and certainly difficult for those who have some health or other problems facing them. It is Christmas and yet far too often it’s Christmas when some of these problems and issues show up. Which seems to feel worse at this season of the year.  I’ve noticed a commercial on TV lately talking about human safety. It points out the various things like marked crosswalks, stop and go lights, lines down the middle of the road or across the road to help us deal with our safety while out and around in our cars or walking. Various levels of government are always trying to protect people from themselves when it comes to our safety. Things such as seat belts in our cars, air bags to help in a crash and so on.

How about our lives as Christians? What kind of protection do we have from the attacks of the devil or our own frailties and weaknesses? Our God watches out for us and has given us a guidebook for our use, safety and well being.

The question is the same for both situations. Do we pay attention to the warnings and protections that are available to us along the path of our life?

The scriptures are full of information as to how to protect us in our Christian walk from all the potential problems that may occur in life.

Psalm 16:11

  1. You (God) will show me the path of life; In your presence is fullness of joy; At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 37:23 -24

  1. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way
  2. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.

Psalm 119:105

  1. Your word is a lamp to my feet. And a light to my path.

1 Peter 5:8

  1. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Ultimately if we are allowing the spirit to direct our lives we will reflect the qualities that should flow from God through us.

Galatians 5:22-23

  1. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
  2. gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Think of these things as our guide to safety in this world.

All the protection the world provides and the Lord provides only protects us as long as we follow the rules and guidelines.

Stay safe both physically and spiritually. God bless you all and more so at this special time of Year. Always remembering “Jesus is the reason for the season”.

There will be a service of scripture and Christmas carols to tell the Christmas story. A number of readers will be required so don’t be surprised if you receive a phone call to read scripture. Doug and Terry will lead the service and since Meredythe will not be available I will play the piano for the 11am service. Please join us for a time of remembering both the birth and death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
