This week has brought some more difficult news about peoples health and well being. I spoke to one of the individuals with a new health problem on Tuesday and they told me they were memorizing Psalm 103 and found the following verses to be a great comfort under the circumstances.

Psalm 103:1-5

  1. Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!
  2. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:
  3. Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
  4. Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
  5. Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

They honed in on verse 3a “Who heals all your diseases”. Now we all know that God may CHOOSE to not heal a disease and for his good reasons may allow one to succumb to whatever our problem may be. Yet, we know that God has the power to heal and often does, even in spite of the Doctor’s prognosis. Therefore  we must completely depend on God’s will in our lives. None of us are immune to the problems, both health and otherwise, that come along. But if we place our faith and trust in God, to see us through, we know we can face anything with God’s care and keeping.

This leads me to the subject of a book I’m just finishing up by Billy Graham. Its  title is “Storm Warning” in which he describes the events laid out in Revelation regarding the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. This covers the end times on earth and beyond. As our awareness of difficulties in the world and our own weaknesses and frailties tells us that as individuals we all live with an expiry date (physically) and our only hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ and his sacrifice that saves us for eternity. The promised coming of the Lord has been the great hope of believers down through the centuries. Winston Churchill’s favorite American song was “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” which begins with the stirring phrase, “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.” Our Christian faith is based on two things: Jesus Christ birth and ultimately His death and resurrection which gives us our certainty of eternity with Jesus in Heaven. That certainty of heaven is embedded in Jesus’ triumphant return to earth at a time unknown to us but indications it is near, are all around us. Charles Wesley wrote seven thousand hymns and in five thousand of those he mentioned the Second Coming of Christ. When Queen Elizabeth the 2nd was crowned, the archbishop of Canterbury laid the crown on her head and said “I give thee, O sovereign lady, this  crown to wear until He who reserves the right to wear it shall return. Our hope is in the Lord and we celebrate Christmas to celebrate His birth. In spite of the aches, pains and serious diseases we can rejoice in his coming and our Hope of Heaven. Praise the Lord! God bless each and everyone of you in whatever special way he deems.

In consideration of making good use of our kitchen and fellowship hall in the coming year I have proposed we attempt to reinvigorate our Keenagers luncheons. However, it would be primarily CATERED allowing for everyone to have fellowship and enjoy the time together. We would also have a special speaker in order to never lose sight of our reason to gather. Details will be discussed with everyone as time goes on, with the first date to have one being February 16th, 2023. (2 days past Valentines day)

See you all on Sunday
