Musings on God’s Word

Here we are past Christmas and New Years and into 2023. Trust all is well with you these days as we continue on through the shorter days, longer nights and sometimes gloomy weather days. I am aware that there are those among us who suffer from the gloom of winter and the dark days that occur. Man has produced products and items to try and remedy the situation which I know work to some extent. Certainly we have prescriptions that help and special lights that help but what really is the answer. Well, to the best of my knowledge it seems that there is no clear cut answer but we do enjoy a sunny day and look forward to the longer, lighter days of spring and summer. So it appears that light and sunshine play a major role in how we feel on a daily basis and at particular times of the year.

As Christians we have another light besides God’s created Sun, it is the Light of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Christmas has reminded us of that fact. Christmas has reminded us of that fact.

Luke 2:11

  1. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Now we know that our Savior came to earth to save us from our sins and provide a future for us when our short life on earth is done.

John 8:12

  1. Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Christ here says that as Christians we have the light of Jesus with us no matter what. Now I know that to  have Jesus as our personal Savior does not take away some of the frailties we have as human beings. We do know that whatever is going on with us frail humans, Jesus is our light, our guide and our strength to endure the difficulties of life and the pain that comes with it.

John 9:5

  1.  As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Psalm 119:105

  1. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

If we rely on the word of God by spending the time in his work and we commune with God in prayer our path should become brighter and lighter.

Micah 7:9b

  1. when I fall, I will arise, When I sit in darkness. The Lord will be a light to me,

Psalm 27:1

  1. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, Of whom shall I be afraid?
There is a hymn that we have sung many times that goes like this.

Verse 1
The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
The light of the world is Jesus
Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in
The light of the world is Jesus

Chorus
Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee,
sweetly the light has dawned upon me;
Once I was blind, but now I can see;
The light of the work is Jesus!

Verse 2
No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
The light of the world is Jesus!
We walk in the light when we follow our Guide
The light of the world is Jesus!

Verse 3
No need of the sunlight in Heaven we’re told
The light of the world is Jesus!
The Lamb is the Light in the city of gold
The light of the world is Jesus!

Oh! won’t it be glorious when we join Him in Heaven and do away with all the aches, pains and discomforts of our human frail lives and walk the streets of gold glorifying and praising God forever and ever. Amen
