One of the things that stands out from our visit back to Saskatchewan is the number of folks with heart problems.
The following information comes from a daily reading in Our Daily Bread.
“The human heart is an amazing organ. This fist-sized pumping station weighs between 7 & 15 ounces. Daily it beats around 100,000 times and pumps 2000 gallons of blood through the 60,000 miles of blood vessels in our bodies. With such a strategic assignment and heavy workload, it’s understandable why heart health is central to the well-being of the entire body. Medical science encourages us to pursue healthy habits because the condition of our heart and the quality of our health go together.”
While medical science speaks authoritatively about our physical hearts, God speaks with even greater authority about a “heart” of another kind. He addresses the mental, emotional, spiritual, and moral “center” of our being. Because the heart is the central process unit of life, it must be protected.
Proverbs 4: 20-23
- My son, give attention to My words, Incline your ear to My sayings.
- Do not let them depart from your eyes: Keep them in the midst of your heart;
- For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23) Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
Proverbs clearly tells us how important our Heart is not just from a physical standpoint but even more important from a spiritual position. Our quality of life is dependent on the condition of our heart. We hear that from the medical experts. But more importantly our heart needs to be attuned to God’s direction and our life should reflect both sets of standards.
In verses 24, 25 and 27 our speech, what we choose to look at with our eyes and where we allow our feet to take us should be guided by the Heart’s direction from our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 4: 24-27
- Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
- Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
- Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
- Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
Again I will quote from the article.
“Regardless of age or stage of life, when our hearts are guarded, our lives are preserved, our relationships are protected, and God is honored.”
I am thankful for my daily bread readings and I trust this article has spoken to each of you as it spoke to me.
God’s richest blessing on you all
