Musings on God’s Word
A question that has come up recently is with respect to Christians ultimate arrival in Heaven. Who will we recognize? Who will surprise us? What denominations are sure to have representatives there and who are not. And why? So let’s look first of all at the matter of Christianity and what it means.
According to “Wikipedia” Christianity is an Abrahamic Monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It is the world’s largest and most widespread religion with roughly 2.4 billion followers comprising around 31.2% of the world’s population. As Brethren we believe that one is saved by the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
Let me share some other thoughts with you.
The term “Christian,” as we understand it, refers to anyone, man, woman, or child, who trusts in Jesus Christ as His or Her Savior and Lord and who strives to follow Him in every area of Life. As evangelicals, we place great stress on the importance of an individual’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
According to Google there are more than 45,000 denominations globally claiming Christianity. 200 in Canada.
So my question is which one has gotten it right or are they all right? What is the cause of so many denominations?
For me it is quite simple:
John 3:16
- For God So loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting Life.
Our Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles in the New Testament and the examples and prophecies contained in the Old Testament along with the history contained in the entire Bible. The Bible is our guide and is solely responsible for our faith and theology.
I guess one of the explanations for the many denominations is the existence of man and his human frailties leading to a desire to control instead of giving Jesus the preeminence.
Proverbs 3:5-6
- Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.
- In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths”.
Scripture itself gives clear direction as to what a Christian is and how a Christian should function in this world.
There’s an old Chorus we used to sing as kids. It goes like this.
One Door and Only One and Yet Its Sides Are Two
(Left click on the song title to listen to the song on youtube)
1) One door and only one and yet its sides are two
Inside and outside on which side are you.
2) one door, and only one and yet its sides are two
I’m on the inside on which side are you?
3) One Lord and only one and yet the ways are two
Right way and wrong way On which way are you?
4) One book and only one Which tells of places two
Good place and bad place of which place choose you?
I think this chorus says it all and in very simple terms. God Bless everyone and keep on the right path.
God’s richest blessing on you all
