Musings on God’s Word
I’ve been reading a book lately about a young man who joined the British Air Force during the 2nd World War. He and his friends did so in loyalty to their country.
They were young but felt it was their duty. They knew the risk as others had died already but were willing to take the risk.
As it happened he started out working as a repairman on aircraft. In due course became a member of a flight crew of 7 that headed out one night for a bombing run in Germany.
They got a little off course and ended up being hit by German artillery and crashed. In due course he discovered that he was the only one to survive.
The statistics were not good when it came to survival during this time. Why do men and women agree to fight in a war with the full knowledge they may lose their lives.
John 15:13
- Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
From this verse I would see these folks sacrificed for the people of the nation they belong to. Is that also true of the ones on the other side of the war? Risking one’s life for another is seen as rescuing people. Firemen, policemen, ambulance attendants, search and rescue personnel show the length some people will go to help others.
But!
There was a greater sacrifice made on our behalf which we remember when we celebrate Easter. However, this sacrifice should be remembered and held in reverence on a daily basis. Our lives would be meaningless without Salvation. What would our purpose be? How would we treat others?
John 15:12
- This is My commandment that you love one another as I have loved you.
There’s the crux of the matter. Jesus died on that cruel cross because He loved everyone. The only issue is acceptance by any and all.
John 3:16
- For God so loved the World He gave his only begotten Son that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Men and women have died for freedom, to protect others and to show their loyalty.
Jesus died to save us from our sins and to provide eternal life with him in Heaven.
1 Corinthians 13 : 4, 7, 8 (excerpts)
- Love suffers long and is kind; ………………….
- bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things
- Love never fails……………………….
Our Savior came to this earth and suffered all things, bore all things but ultimately defeated death for our Salvation.
Thanks to our fellow man for sacrifices made.
Rejoice in the fact our Savior out gave everyone by his death on the cross which provided Salvation free to everyone who asks.
God Loves You and So Do I.
God’s richest blessing on you all
