Musings on God’s Word
Here we are, halfway through the month of January 2024. How time flies.
I was sent a connection to a YouTube video of a church in Ireland singing a hymn about the fact we are into the new Year.
The words really struck me and as well as sharing them with you today I will produce copies for us to sing at chapel.
Another Year Is Dawning
Another year is dawning Dear Father, let it be.
In working or in waiting another year with thee;
Another year of leaning upon thy loving breast
Another year of trusting, of quiet, happy rest
2
Another year of mercies of faithfulness and grace;
another year of gladness in the shining of thy face;
another year of progress, another year of praise
another year of proving thy presence all the days.
3
Another year of service of witness for thy love;
Another year of training for holier work above
Another year is dawning! Dear Father, let it be
on earth, or else in Heaven another year for thee.
As I listened to the hymn and the words I was reminded of the fact that each of us is given so much time to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We Have This Moment, Today
We have this moment to hold in our hands and to touch as it slips through our fingers like sand.
Yesterday’s gone and tomorrow may never come But we have this moment today.
Another line says
Don’t wait for tomorrow To look back and wish for this day.
Time is something we all deal with whether it’s an appointment to see the Doctor, or a meeting with someone or an event to attend. We arise from sleep at a certain time, we go to bed at a certain time and we eat at certain times.
In other words, time is very important in our lives.
But the question is; How do we use our time? Do we make valuable use of it or waste it? Do we spend it wisely or foolishly? Time is such a valuable commodity and yet we see time slipping away from us all with no way of stopping it. The world seems to spend time so foolishly with no thought for its value.
Psalm 31: 14 & 15
- But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say You are my God.
- My times are in Your hands.
Psalm 31: 24
- Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord.
Here we have the best way to deal with time. Use it wisely, make it count. God’s timing is perfect and He has the final say.
James 4:14
- Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
This is brought home to me when I watch a history program about civilizations from 1000s of years ago that in many cases have completely disappeared. Or have left behind some ruins of buildings.
We are all only here for a short time, let’s make the best of it. Share our Salvation with others.
If we read the signs of the times we know that our personal times are short and it would appear that the Lord’s return is near at hand. Let us measure our time and make sure it counts for what really matters. Our Faith to share!
Our Family to hold close and love
Our Friends to cherish and respect.
Ecclesiastes 3 tells us there is a time for everything and leads to verse 12
Ecclesiastes 3:12
- I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in their lives.
God’s richest blessing on you all
