Musings on God’s Word
“Dust Bunnies” You know what I mean those things that hide under furniture like beds and sofas. As we age and our physical capabilities weaken it’s harder to do some of the things we did as younger people with ease and strength. Here’s what I’m talking about. It had been ages since we pulled our sofa out to vacuum under it and boy did we find the “dust bunnies” bits of snack foods and other bits and pieces that fell through the cushions onto the floor. So after much huffing and puffing we pulled the sofa out and the vacuum cleaner ate it all up. No more dust bunnies or other stuff under the sofa. We’ll check under the bed one of these days.
The point is, this dirt and dust was hidden from sight, just like some of our attitudes, behaviors, thoughts and other things that Christians sometimes hide from sight or just think others don’t notice. As we cleaned up this stuff I began to think about my own life and looking back I can identify times when “a little white lie” ‘O Yeah’ was told to avoid something or just to make life seem to go easier or not having to account for a behavior we don’t want anyone else to know about. In any case, just like the hidden “Dust Bunnies” etc., I’m sure I’m not the only one with these hidden sins hiding from plain sight.
So what’s the answer?
John 1: 9
- If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Psalm 103:8
- the Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
Psalm 103:12
- As far as the east is from the west so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
We are to ask forgiveness for all our sins on a regular basis and as John 1:9 says we will be forgiven. Forgiveness must be asked and forgiveness will be given.
God loves us so much that He bore our sins, past, present and future by His death on the cross. There is no greater sacrifice for sins than this.
So as we cleaned up the hidden “Dust bunnies” under our sofa so must we all clean out the hidden parts of ourselves and seek God’s forgiveness for those sins of commission, as well as those things we fail to do as laid out in the scripture.
God’s forgiveness is ongoing but we are never, never, never to think we can take advantage of that forgiveness without admittance of what’s been done.
Psalm 139:1 & 2
- O Lord You have searched me and known me;
- You know my sitting down and my rising up, You understand my thought afar off.
Nothing is hidden from God but forgiveness is available to all. Get rid of the “dust bunnies” in our lives; they just mess things all up.
God bless each and every one of you as you live for Jesus every day.
God’s richest blessing on you all
