Musings on God’s Word
We have a plaque hanging in our home that was on the wall in Barb’s parents home.
It reads:
“Only one life, Twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
It concludes with the verse from Philippians 1:21
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain”
This, of course, comes from Paul. A man who was known as Saul and persecuted Christians when and wherever he could.
But, when God got a hold of him Paul’s efforts to preach the Gospel and suffer for it was without ceasing. His past and the change gives us another clear example of how to live for Christ on a daily basis.
I am a believer in the witness and teachings found in our hymns. Here is one I think says it all.
Living for Jesus, a Life That is True
Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do,
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
Refrain:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
For thou, in thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me.
I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.
2.Living for Jesus who died in my place
Bearing on Calv’ry my sin and disgrace
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.
3.Living for Jesus, wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy Name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.
4.Living for Jesus through earth’s little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile,
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.
Here again is the truth in the song. I love how the message of salvation and the encouragement to each Christian is built into the Hymns provided through God’s leading of so many faithful, talented Christians.
God’s richest blessing on you all
